Warri Kingdom, Delta State – A vibrant display of Itsekiri tradition unfolded as Chief Francis Omatseye, the newly installed Udefi of Warri Kingdom, ceremonially returned his uda (sceptre) to His Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III CFR, the 21st Olu of Warri. This symbolic gesture, deeply rooted in Itsekiri custom, marked the culmination of Chief Omatseye’s chieftaincy installation process.

The event, which took place across Warri City and Ode-Itsekiri, commenced with a grand procession. Chief Omatseye, accompanied by a flotilla of decorated boats and a jubilant entourage, embarked on a ceremonial journey from Warri City to Ode-Itsekiri, the ancestral home of the Itsekiri people. The procession, a spectacle of vibrant colors and rhythmic drumming, drew crowds of well-wishers who lined the waterways to witness this historic event.
Upon arrival at Ode-Itsekiri, Chief Omatseye, adorned in full chieftaincy regalia, proceeded to the Olu’s Palace. In a solemn ceremony, he presented his uda to Ogiame Atuwatse III CFR, signifying his allegiance and commitment to serving the Warri Kingdom. The Olu, in turn, received the uda with blessings and words of encouragement, acknowledging Chief Omatseye’s dedication to the Itsekiri people.
