Orere-Uluba is a vibrant, riverine agrarian community situated deep within the mangroves of the Warri South Local Government Area (LGA) of Delta State. Bounded by Ughoton, Omadino, and Mereje in the Okpe Local Government Area, the community is renowned for its rich fertile soil, abundant natural resources including clay and oil, and a deep-seated agricultural heritage.
The primary occupation of the people is fishing and farming, reflecting a lifestyle deeply connected to the land and water that surrounds them.
Historical Significance & Culture
Orere-Uluba holds a unique place in the history of the Warri Kingdom. The community’s identity is anchored in centuries of tradition, symbolized by the 500-year-old Kurusu sculpture located at the Ogwa Ebele (community center). This ancient artifact stands as a testament to the strength, cultural pride, and enduring spirit of the people.
The community’s history was recently vividly brought to life through the stage play “Prince Ebele of Uluba”, performed by the Aghofen Troupe at the Palace of the Olu of Warri. This historical drama, presented before His Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III, CFR and other eminent royal fathers, chronicled the heritage, struggles, and triumphs of the community.
Ghigho Aghofen: A Season of Service
Orere-Uluba recently completed a prestigious tenure of Ghigho Aghofen (Palace Watch), a three-month period of dedicated service and unwavering devotion to the Olu of Warri.
- The Handover: On Saturday, December 20, 2025, the community formally handed over the torch of service to the Olobe Community in a sacred rite that reinforced the unity and ancestral order of the Kingdom.
- Ugwa-Olu (Royal Blessing): In a historic act of benediction, His Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III walked upon the soil of Orere-Uluba. During this visit, the King invoked peace and fertility upon the land, reaffirming the spiritual bond between the throne and the community.
Modern Development & Agriculture
Today, Orere-Uluba is emerging as a strategic hub for agricultural development in Delta State.
- Warri South Sheriff Care Farm Estate: The community has partnered with the Warri South Local Government Council to establish a Mega Farm Estate. Over 50 hectares of land have been committed to this Public-Private Partnership (PPP) aimed at eradicating hunger and boosting the local economy.
- Crops: Cassava, tomatoes, pepper, yam, and vegetables.
- Impact: The project promises to provide economic opportunities, with community members acting as key stakeholders.
- Infrastructure: Notable improvements include the recent inspection and renovation of the community Jetty, facilitated by Prince Collins Oritsetimeyin Edema (Sole Representative of the Olu of Warri to NNPC Limited). Plans are also underway to develop an Aqua Center in the community.
