The first ever edition of the Itsekiri Poem Competition organized by the Itsekiri Interest Group came to an end this week with winners announced. The Itsekiri Poem Competition is aimed at encouraging the children and teenagers of Warri Kingdom to be fluent in Itsekiri language. The project ran for a few days with entries submitted online and tagging the organisers, Itsekiri Interest Group and using the hashtags #itsekiriinterestgroup and #itsekiripoemchallenge.
To be eligible for the contest, participants would be under 15 years old and fully dressed in Itsekiri attire. The poems focused on Itsekiri people and Warri Kingdom. After the contest, Miss Owin Oritsesholayemi Favour came first winning the grand prize of a hundred thousand naira (N100,000) while the children of Mr Igbiaye Samuel Toritseju won fifty thousand naira (N50,000).
The winners are to visit the secretariat of Itsekiri Interest Group located at No 69 Ajamimogha road, Warri, Delta State on the 11th of January 2021 to collect their prize.
Note: Itsekiri Interest Group will also be opening her secretariat on that very day (11th January 2022).
