Sports, with its roots extending far beyond the ancient Olympic Games, has perpetually served as a unifying force, bringing people together in competitive yet harmonious ways. In contemporary society, sports has evolved into a crucial pillar, underpinning a substantial portion of human progress. Recently, His Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III CFR and Her Highness Olori Atuwatse III graced the momentous commissioning of a world-class football field at Erejuwa II Grammar School in Ode-Itsekiri. The field boasts an artificial turf that adheres to the standards set by FIFA, the global football governing body.

Accompanying His Majesty were distinguished guests, including His Royal Highness Zaiki Anslem Okojie Aidenojie II, the Onojie of Uromi, His Worship Fabrice Rulinda Brad, the Lord Mayor of Entebbe, Uganda, Chief Engr Oma Eyewuoma (the Ologbotsere of Warri Kingdom), Chief Dr Roland Oritsejafor (the Ogwa of Warri Kingdom), Chief Solomon Arenyeka (the Eson of Warri Kingdom), Chief Engr Wilson Olley (the Aboludero of Warri Kingdom) and other notable dignitaries.

Mr. Amaju Pinnick, an Executive Member of FIFA and the visionary behind the project, shared insights into its significance. As the chair of the Brownhill Foundation, Mr Pinnick highlighted the foundation’s commitment to societal contributions and expressed hope that this initiative would unearth the wealth of talent present in Warri and Delta state. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to support His Majesty’s endeavours in fostering sports development, extending the reach of such initiatives to both urban centers and rural communities within the kingdom.

In a brief but impactful statement, His Worship Fabrice Rulinda, the Lord Mayor of Entebbe, Uganda, urged the people of the Warri Kingdom to align with the visionary leadership of His Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III, foreseeing greater progress for the kingdom.

His Majesty, Ogiame Atuwatse III, expressed enthusiasm about the project’s potential to create opportunities. He pledged his unwavering support for the project’s sustainability and revealed plans to host his own celebrity match at the venue in the near future.

The Iwere Sports Centre also used the opportunity to unveil His Majesty, Ogiame Atuwatse III CFR, the Olu of Warri as the Great Grand Patron of the sports platform on Friday, 20th October 2023.
